Thought Woman- The Life and Ideas of Paula Gunn Allen

 

This is the preview for my 55 minute film about Paula Gunn Allen. The film features music from the Ojibwe singer Sharon Day, The Neeconis Woman Singers and Paula's daughter Lauralee Brown. The film premiered November 1, 2013 at Pangea World Theater in Minneapolis, MN.

 

Paula Gunn Allen was a Two Spirit woman from the Laguna Pueblo people and of Lebanese, Metis and Scottish descent. She wrote the groundbreaking book The Sacred Hoop- Recovering the Feminine in American Indian Traditions as well as novels, essays, poetry and literary criticism. She was brilliant, hilarious, an out lesbian, complex and was an important, bold thinker about history, politics and spirit.
